Dame Pauline Tallen

Dame Pauline Kedem Tallen is from Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria.

Pauline Tallen was born on the 8th January in 1959 into the family Kattiems of Shendam LGA and in pursuit of her educational qualifications saw her study sociology in University of Jos Plateau State for B.Sc qualification in 1982.

Dame Tallen political career started when she was the clerical officer of Shendam LGA an office which is key in providing a comprehensive general administrative and clerical support to the Local Government Council and later transferred her services to Plateau State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Dame Pauline Tallen was elected supervisory council in Shendam LGA and the Military Administrator of Plateau State, Mohammed Mana appointed Dame Pauline Tallen as Commissioner of Plateau State a capacity she served from 1994-1999 and immediately appointed as a Minister of the Government of Federal Republic of Nigeria by President Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999 and assigned to the Ministry of Science and Technology.

For the record, Dame Pauline Tallen was the first woman in Nigeria to be appointed Minister in that capacity and made history in 2007 when she was elected as Deputy Governor of Plateau State alongside David Jonah Jang under the platform of People’s Democratic Party (P.D.P) and record Pauline Tallen was first woman Deputy Governor in Northern Nigeria.

Due to clash of interest with David Jonah Jang, Pauline Tallen left P.D.P in 2011 to contest for Governor of Plateau State under Labour Party (L.P.) which she lost out to the incumbent Governor. Dame Pauline Tallen left People’s Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress and played a key role to the emergence of Muhammadu Buhari as President, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Dame Pauline Tallen shook the entire world when she turned down ambassadorial nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari administration to take care of her husband, John Tallen who didn’t livelong and died on March 28, 2017 due to ill-health.

Dame Pauline Tallen is a member, board of trustees of All Progressives Congress and National Agency for Control of Aids (NACA). In 2019, Dame Pauline Tallen was among the seven (7) women to make the list of Ministerial appointee’s for the second term tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari and was sworn-in on 21st of August 2019 and assigned to Ministry of Women Affairs.
