Oyo State EPT Suprise Ruling Party

Oyo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, following a petition filed on the 2 March, 2019 over its rejection of the election of the opposition’s candidate as the Governor of Oyo State.

The Tribunal sitting on 16 September has dismissed the application filed by Bayo Adelabu, the governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress in the State Governorship election. adelabu had in his application asked the court to pronounce him the winner of the election or order a rerun, citing that the election was marred with irrgularities, over-voting and lack of transparent accreditation process.

However, ruling over the claims raised by Bayo Adelabu, the tribunal held that the petitioner has failed to “prove substantial non-compliance with the Electoral Act”. While delivery the final ruling, the three-man tribunal led by Justice Sirajo Muhammed, ruled thatt the All Progressives Congress and its candidate failed to prove the allegation of corrupt practices, improper accreditaion, over voting and inaccurate ballot counting and non-compliance with the amended 2010 Electoral Act of 2010.
